Serve with compassion. Be the difference. Job Summary Responsible to perform the in office advanced ophthalmology testing functions for the eye surgeons. Responsible for performing various technical procedures. Fully supporting the Multi Specialty Eye Surgeons and acts as a training resource for the Certified Ophthalmic Assistant. Obtains brief medical history and chief complaint from patient. Maintains patient’s medical record via electronic medical record. Sets up and assists with office procedures. Performs within scope of certification tests including: History taking; Visual acuity measurement; Refractometry; Tonometry; Measure pupil size/reactivity; Test and measure eye muscle function; Visual field testing; Corneal thickness measure; Corneal curvature measure; Corneal topography; Retinal nerve fiber layer measurement; Retinal thickness and topography; Fluorescein angiography; A and B-scan ultrasonography; Assist with contact lens fitting, and patient instruction; Prepare for and assist with in-office procedures; Surgical assisting for patients and obtaining medical information from patients during their office visits and for using this information to perform related tasks. Assists physician by scribing and performing various tasks during patient exam. Schedules surgeries, follow up appointments and referrals as requested. Obtains precertification for all surgeries. Performs surgical assisting for eye surgeon. Receives and returns phone calls, forwarding those requiring physician action. Monitors and maintains stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment. Provides education/training to patient/family. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervisory/Management Responsibilities This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive. Minimum Requirements Education•High School diploma or equivalent OR post-high school diploma/highest degree earned Experience•No experience defined In Lieu Of Graduate of a Doctor of Optometry degree program will be accepted in lieu of JCAHPO certification as a COT.
