Hourly Job Summary A Lab Optician plays a crucial role in the production of eyeglasses and lenses, ensuring that each product meets our rigorous standards for accuracy and quality. Communication with outside Optical labs is imperative to this role.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate lens finishing equipment to precisely cut, shape, and edge eyeglass lenses according to prescription requirements and frame specifications. Conduct thorough quality control inspections to ensure that finished lenses meet optical and aesthetic standards. Identify and address any discrepancies or defects in the eyewear. Collaborate with optical staff to ensure proper fitting of lenses into frames, taking into consideration individual prescription needs and frame styles. Verify and interpret prescriptions to accurately produce lenses that meet the specific visual requirements of each patient. Perform routine maintenance on lab equipment, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate with relevant personnel for repairs or replacements. Monitor and manage the inventory of lens blanks. Stay informed about and comply with all optical industry standards, regulations, and company policies. Sales and Product Knowledge The Optician is expected to possess a high degree of knowledge of current optical products, and industry innovation. The ability to effectively communicate the benefits of all optical products is required. Customer Orientation Providing our patients exceptional service is a cornerstone of our brand. The Optician’s role in delivering on our brand is integral. Communication Skills Must be able to effectively communicate with the optical staff and billing department around all our optical products including frames, lenses, etc. Communicating in a manner by which teammates understand technical terminology in layman language is essential. Technical Abilities Must possess comprehensive knowledge of optical instruments, tools, and technologies. Ensuring the accuracy of eyewear received from the lab, etc. is imperative. Pace of the Environment Must be able to work at a fast pace. Effectively handling multiple tasks at one time, while focusing on the quality of the lenses. Frequent Interaction with Others Must demonstrate the ability to manage multiple interruptions on a continual basis, always maintaining friendly interactions with team members, and management.
