Position:

Scribe-Float (Dalton, Calhoun, Chatsworth, Fort Oglethorpe)

Job Description:

Enters important medical information and findings of the exam dictated by the Ophthalmologist’s or Optometrist’s into E H R or paper chart for each visit. Assist the physician throughout each patient encounter.

Typical Physical Demands:

Requires prolonged standing, sitting, walking, some bending, stooping and stretching. Requires excellent communications skills and keen understanding of patients with sensory impairment. Must be able to express caring attitude while performing the tasks required, with accuracy and efficiency. Requires normal range of hearing and eye sight to perform necessary testing and report findings. Manual dexterity for operating office/medical equipment. High level of mental awareness. Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Review physician’s schedule prior the beginning of day to anticipate procedures and supplies or equipment that may be needed. Greets patients in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner. Escort patients into exam lanes based on appointment time and type of exam to maintain good patient flow. Responsible for maintaining patient flow based on type of exam (i.e.: rechecks vs. patients who have been dilated) Controls patient flow. Charts medical information as it is dictated by doctor during patient exam. Assist physician (s) by obtaining supplies as needed during patient care. Perform Tonopen IOP as needed. Administers eye drops as needed. Places BCL in and patches eye as needed. Reiterate physician instructions or information to patient. Dispense samples, information brochures and written prescriptions to patient. Route charts to other departments when necessary by assigning “To-Do’s” in the computer system. If there is a paper chart, the chart must be routed to the appropriate party as well. Remain friendly and helpful to patients at all times. Socialization should be kept to a minimum to expedite patient flow. Ensure patient understands information given during exam, answer questions regarding medications, etc. Responsible for exiting patients to the surgical counselor or front desk for check out. As well as escorting the patient to appropriate area (i.e., reception area, dilating room, cataract testing, etc.) Properly code encounter form; including procedures, modifiers, PQR codes, meaningful use codes and diagnoses, for a variety of insurance policies. Inform physician of any problems with patient flow that inhibit timeliness. Assist work up techs as needed. Maintain patient confidentiality. Assist with minor office surgeries, injections, lasers, etc. Work with all physicians in the office as well as in all locations. Responsible for opening lanes at the beginning of the morning. Responsible for keeping exam room stocked with all needed supplies. Responsible for late night and late lunch duties as assigned. Other duties as required and assigned.

Performance Requirements:

Working knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology of the eye and excellent communication skills.

Compliance:

Responsible for a complete knowledge and adherence of all PEA compliance plans, policies and procedures.

Temperament:

Possesses a preference for dealing with individuals who are ill or in need of help. Must maintain a courteous and professional manner at all times. Must be able to work under pressure and solve problems. Must possess the maturity to work with wide variety of temperaments. Must always maintain a positive attitude.

Qualifications:

Need to be courteous, concise and efficient Requires strong computer skills. 75 WPM Must be able to work under pressure and solve problems Knowledge of medical assisting and terminology preferred Ability to professionally interact with the public, co-workers and physicians Excellent hearing, corrected eyesight and the ability to move at a quick pace Ability to act independently using sound judgment Maintain strict confidentiality Legible handwriting and good spelling skills Excellent multi-tasking skills Attention to detail Punctual and reliable
