The Optometrist is responsible for examining patients, diagnosing eye and vision problems, testing patients’ depth and color perception, and testing patients’ ability to coordinate and focus their eyes. Optometrists also prescribe contact lenses and glasses, treat eye problems. If you have a passion for improving the lives of others through their sight, this is the role for you

Primary Functions:

Examine eyes, using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination and to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities such as glaucoma or color blindness Analyze test results and develop a treatment plan. Prescribe, supply, fit and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses and other vision aids. Prescribe medications to treat eye diseases. Educate and counsel patients on contact lens care, visual hygiene, lighting arrangements and safety factors. Consult with and refer patients to ophthalmologist or other health care practitioner if additional medical treatment is determined necessary. Remove foreign bodies from the eye when applicable. Provide patients undergoing eye surgeries, such as cataract and laser vision correction, with pre- and post-operative care. Prescribe therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision.

Successful Candidates Will Have:

Doctor of optometry (O.D.) degree. Must possess an active Missouri state-issued license for optometry. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. In-depth knowledge of eye-related disorders and conditions. Demonstrated professional competence and ethical conduct of practice.
