Performs strabismus evaluation including motortesting, evaluation of Fresnel and spectacle prisms, convergenceexercises, and orthoptic treatment. Education/Formal Training Requirements Bachelor’s Degree Orthoptics Bachelor’s Degree Ophthalmologic care Work Experience Requirements No prior work experience Licenses and Certifications Requirements Certified Orthoptist – American Orthoptic Council Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of binocular vision and eye movementdisorders Demonstrates ability to perform infant and pediatric visionassessments Demonstrates ability to perform manifest and cycloplegicrefractions in children Knowledge of various testing including: Visual Acuity testing,Lensometry, Retinoscopy Refraction, Color Vision, Pupil and Slit Lamp Biomicroscopy,Tonometry, and Visual Fields Supervision Provided by this Position There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned tothis position. Physical Demands The physical activities of this position may include climbing,pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling,stooping, and repetitive motion. Must have good balance and coordination. The physical requirements of this position are: medium work -exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs.of force frequently. The Associate is required to have close visual acuity includingcolor, depth perception, and field of vision to perform anactivity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing dataand figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; orextensive reading. Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact. Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure tohazardous or poisonous materials. Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
