Expected Starting Salary Range:
$63,772.00 – $72,200.00 Provides integrated health services and extends access to health services in underserved and general populations, including primary care, public health, disease management, prevention and wellness, mental health, and dental health. Performs technical work in the provision of basic emergency care and transportation, and under the direction of a physician, by written protocol or direct communication, provides advanced emergency medical care (Advanced Life Support) for the acutely sick and injured as defined in Florida Statute 401 and Florida Administrative Code 64J-1.

Special Risk Working Conditions
Indoor/outdoor environment; high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Ability to move or lifting equipment up to 50 lbs. alone; up to 100 lbs. with assistance. Ability to lift and carry patients weighing in excess of 250 pounds, with assistance, without causing harm or aggravating injuries to the patient. This is a safety-sensitive position. Employment and continued employment with Manatee County Government is contingent upon passing pre-employment and employment screenings identified in Section XX of the Personnel Policy, Rules, and Procedures Manual. An applicant/employee who fails to pass a drug/alcohol screening, shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of three (3) years.
Job Description Essential Functions:
These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position. Examines, screens, treats and coordinates health services for patients. Conducts post-hospital release follow-up care including, but not limited to, monitoring medication, dressing changes, and checking vital signs. Observes, records, and reports to physician, a patient’s condition and reactions to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents. Conducts patient education, including diabetes prevention/treatment, hypertension, Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), falls assessment, injury evaluation, geriatric frailty visits, and nutrition. Administers patient care consistent with department protocols and physician orders. Coordinates appointments and follow-up with physicians and hospitals. Develops and completes appropriate reports and templates for the Community Paramedic Program. Attends meetings as requested and available. Performs technical work in the provision of basic emergency care and transportation, and under the direction of a physician, by written protocol or direct communication, provides advanced emergency medical care (Advanced Life Support) for the acutely sick and injured as defined in Florida Statute 401 and Florida Administrative Code 64J-1. Performs other related work (including weather or extreme emergency duties) as required. Minimum Qualifications Associate’s degree in related field. Minimum of one (1) years’ experience working as a charge paramedic in a busy/progressive ALS 911 system and an Associates Degree, or a minimum of three (3) years of experience working as a charge paramedic in a busy/progressive ALS 911 system. Must pass department approved Agility Test and be able to obtain International Board of Specialty Certifications CP-C certification within two (2) years. Valid driver’s license required with valid Florida driver’s license obtained within 30 days of hire. Certified Florida Paramedic, Current CPR Health Care Provider Certification, Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Emergency Vehicle Operation Course (16-hour course) required. International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Pediatric Emergencies for Pre-Hospital Providers (PEPP) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), other advanced experience in STEMI, Stroke and 12-Lead interpretation and successful completion of community paramedic course (within 6 months of hire) required. More Hospital experience desired. Bilingual English/Spanish skills desired. Critical care specialty (CCEMT-P course or approved equivalent), National Registry EMT-P certifications desired.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Requires extensive knowledge in Basic and Advanced Emergency Medical Care, Incident Command Management, basic rescue procedures, Basic Hazardous Materials Response, Emergency Vehicle Operations, patient handling techniques, and a thorough knowledge of the geography of Manatee County. Excellent customer service skill to handle continuous customer contact with the general public including citizens who may be ill or injured, upset, and/or distraught requiring the utmost patience, tact and discretion. Ability to exercise sound judgment, and good problem-solving skills in pressure situations. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with co-workers and the general public. Good vision to read documents and view information output from medical equipment. May require varied shifts including weekends and holidays.
