May 7, 2025 Current Team Member Job Description ECU Health About ECU Health North Hospital ECU Health North Hospital is a Joint Commission-accredited, 204-bed acute bed facility serving Halifax, Northampton and Warren counties in the north-central region of North Carolina. Its service area also reaches into southern Virginia. With more than 600 team members, the hospital offers a broad range of medical and surgical services. It features a 24-hour emergency department and offers advanced diagnostics as well as specialty and primary care.

Position Summary VMC:

The Paramedic functions as a member of the care team and participates in the care of ill and injured patients. Responsibilities include patient care, incorporating stabilization, and intervention techniques consistent with standards and protocols approved by the Medical Director. The Paramedic functions as part of a team and shares responsibility for the team’s conduct. The Paramedic fulfills education skill requirements as established by the Medical Director, and performs other duties as assigned.

EastCare:

The Transport Paramedic function as a member of the ALS transport team and is responsible for the care of the ill and injured patients transported by ECU Health EastCare. Responsibilities include patient care, incorporating assessment, stabilization, and intervention techniques consistent with standards and protocols approved by the Medical Director. The Transport Paramedic is expected to execute independent judgment, in order to deliver appropriate care that is consistent with the clinical protocols, when contact with a medical command physician is not possible. The Transport Paramedic functions as part of a team and shares responsibility for the team’s conduct. The Transport Paramedic fulfills education and experiential requirements as established by the ECU Health EastCare Medical Director, and performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent is required – or higher.

VMC Paramedic:

Graduate from an approved Paramedic program is required.
American Heart Association Basic Life Support, Current certification by the State of North Carolina as a Paramedic is required (NC EMT-P Certification).

Additional EastCare:

American Heart Association ACLS and PALS prior to completing orientation.
