DIRECTOR I

(T223665)PROGRAM DIRECTORIUniversity of Alabama at BirminghamThis position will manage theday-to-day operations of the multi-disciplinary Gender HealthClinic (GHC). This person will also be the liaison for transgenderpatients and work closely with providers and community members toassist in obtaining care, screenings, and other services fortransgender individuals. The GHC PD will also play a role insensitivity training for UAB employees.

Programmatic Leadership andAdministrative Functions Plan and lead regular GHC team meetings to include operationaland clinical stakeholders. Provide updates on standard agenda items including: changes inreferral services/providers in the area, pertinent legal changes,presentation of clinic metrics, and additional agenda itemssubmitted by team members. Create and maintain a living document of referral providers forall specialties.

Strategic Planning Create an annual strategic plan to address clinic growth,programmatic development, and plans for community outreach andengagement. Clarify and maintain modes of communication available topatients and the community for clinic and programmaticinformation. Maintain website with up-to-date phone numbers and pertinentinformation. Network with other programs in the region for strategicplanning. Help to grow research involvement in clinic – create and manageprocess for researchers requesting collaboration or recruitment forstudies. Keep abreast of any legal changes or developments related totransgender healthcare at the federal, state, and locallevels. Ensure compliance with all relevant laws andregulations.

Clinical Administrative Duties for Gender Health Clinic Be present in clinic during all clinic sessions and schedulefollow-up clinic appointments. Serve as a resource and advocate to patients, assisting them asa liaison between the community and the healthcare system. Identifyneeds of patients and coordinate access to services. Receive information requests from providers and act upon thoserequests. Assist patients in clinic and via phone/impact with high-levelclinic issues. Check impact messages daily and reply to all within 1 businessday. Ensure urgent communication – Maintain a system for urgentcommunication with physicians, such as a pager or other quickcommunication method, to address any urgent healthcare needs orconcerns that physicians may have for clinic patients or potentialpatients. Assist in referrals for services not available in clinic -mental health providers, psychiatrists, surgeons, dermatology,etc. Create a document or system detailing which individual or groupis responsible for clinical and administrative tasks. Prepare letters for surgeries – Assist transgender patients inpreparing necessary letters or documentation required forgender-affirming surgeries, as per the WPATH (World ProfessionalAssociation for Transgender Health) standards of care. Send results letters and fax labs to patients – Ensure patientsreceive test results letter or outside lab requisition fromphysicians promptly and efficiently, when directed by message fromphysician. Regularly review clinic performance metrics, patientsatisfaction surveys, and outcomes to identify areas forimprovement and ensure the delivery of high-quality care. Management of Prior Authorizations – Assist in completing priorauthorizations for patient medications as needed by clinicalproviders. Maintain the highest professional conduct at alltimes.

Sensitivity Training Assist staff with sensitivity training activities during officehours and responding to patient phone calls, questions andmedication requests. This position may perform assessments, intake, and communityoutreach, linkage to care, and provide educational materials topatients.

Collaboration with Partners Attend clinic staff meetings, relevant staff in-serviceactivities, and local training opportunities. Attend educational/professional meetings and conferences toremain up to date on current best practices and developments thataffect the patient population and maintain any relevantcertifications. Stay aware of current theories, policies, and remain up to dateon emerging practices and be current with the theory oftrauma-informed service for gender nonconformingindividuals.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Work Characteristics Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to communicate and work effectively in diverse culturalenvironments and multidisciplinary settings with a diversepopulation of staff and physicians. Ability to use common office software (Word, Excel,PowerPoint). Ability to provide precise, well-written documentation andhandle multiple tasks and prioritize assigned duties. Ability to navigate difficult conversations with respect, tact,and professionalism to overcome complex challenges andbarriers. Emphasis is placed on the ability to organize priorities,complete tasks, manage confidential patient information, andschedule and manage patient appointments, diagnostic testing,referrals and other managed care-related issues. Knowledge of medical terminology. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to develop solutions and recommend changes and followthrough with implementation.

Salary Range$47,665 -$77,455QualificationsEducation Bachelor’s degree in a related field. And three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for educationrequirement.
