Job Purpose The Patient Advocate will complete MedicalAssistance Applications on patients who may potentially qualify forbenefits under the MA Program or other entitlement programs. Obtainall necessary documents required by the County Assistance Office todetermine eligibility. Duties and Responsibilities Complete theMedical Assistance Application, screen for disability and completethe hospital charity care form with patient/family member orguardian Update computer system daily Medical Assistance productionreports completed daily Submit 1663’s to appropriate physicianwithin 24 hours of completing the application Secure all releases,waivers and questionnaires needed Leave each patient with a pendingdocument’s check list and follow up daily while patient is stillin-house (if applicable). All necessary verification should befaxed for within the first 24-48 hours of completing the MAapplication Prepare applications for drop off at County AssistanceOffice Discharge files are to be worked immediately Follow up withCounty Assistance Office until determination has been made. Assistwith the Marketplace where applicable. Report Red Flag andnon-cooperative patients to management. Use, protect and disclosepatients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordancewith Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)standards Rotating Weekend Shifts Qualifications High schoolDiploma or equivalent is required, College degree in Healthcarefield preferred 2 to 3 years’ experience in the field of healthcarepreferred 2 to 3 years’ patient facing experience preferredBilingual in Spanish (spoken and written skills) a plus Ability towork at various client sites as needed Ability to effectivelycommunicate with patients one on one Ability to work independentlyand be detail-oriented Strong investigatory and researching skillsAbility to use the internet and learn databases Excellent writtenand verbal skills Ability to efficiently multitask Possess a highlevel of organization skills Adhere to the policies and protocolsof the client while behaving professionally at all times Ability tomeet monthly productivity goals Must be proficient in
