Full Job Description Position Summary:

The Interventional Radiology (IR) Patient Advocate serves as the primary liaison between patients, families, and the IR clinical team. This role focuses on enhancing the patient experience by providing clear communication, education, emotional support, and guidance through the procedural journey. The IR Patient Advocate helps address concerns, resolves barriers to care, and ensures each patient receives compassionate, personalized support before, during, and after procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Support & Communication:

Act as a dedicated point of contact for patients scheduled for IR procedures. Educate patients and families about procedures, preparation, post-procedure care, and follow-up.

Assist with pre-procedure navigation:

scheduling, insurance questions, instructions, and logistical concerns. Ensure patients understand consent forms, expectations, and any instructions in plain language.

Care Coordination:

Collaborate with nurses, radiologists, schedulers, and referring providers to streamline patient care. Help coordinate services like translation, transportation, social work, or financial counseling when needed. Follow up with patients post-procedure to check on recovery and address any lingering concerns.

Problem Resolution & Advocacy:

Address patient concerns, complaints, or feedback with empathy and professionalism. Work with internal departments to resolve delays, miscommunications, or service breakdowns. Escalate unresolved issues appropriately while maintaining confidentiality and compliance.

Documentation & Compliance:

Maintain records of patient interactions, concerns, and resolution efforts in accordance with HIPAA. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient satisfaction reporting. Help identify trends in patient feedback to inform departmental improvements.

Qualifications:

Associate or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, social work, nursing, or related field (preferred) 2+ years of experience in a patient-facing role in a hospital, radiology, or procedural care setting Strong knowledge of medical terminology, especially related to interventional radiology Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Proficiency in EMR systems (e.g., EPIC) and basic computer skills BLS certification (optional but preferred)
