Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Division of Pediatric and Public Health provides oral health care for individuals from infancy through adolescence, and promotes the prevention of oral disease. The Pediatric Dentistry discipline is committed to the treatment of children, adolescents and special needs patients while balancing teaching, scholarship, patient care, research and professional service activities. Position Summary This position’s primary function is to serve as the departmental DDS patient navigator/scheduler by corresponding with parents, guardians, care-givers, social services, etc. for primary DDS students and residents, and faculty as needed in the clinic setting. Direct contact via UNCH MyChart, telephone, email, and mail via the United States Postal Service will also be required. Accurately communicate the message of both the patient and provider. Serve as patient advocate ensuring that the client receives access to all appropriate services. Secondarily, this position will provide receptionist duties for Pediatric Dentistry in person and by telephone in a pleasant and professional manner. Identify, understand, and multitask on a continual basis. Assist the main Patient Relations Representative with the scheduling of Grad Program screening patients. Help to resolve resident patient, parent, or guardian issues by reviewing records and corresponding with the proper parties by phone, fax, or mail. Assists faculty, residents, students, and patients by maintaining all documentation for patient assignments, patient progress and departmental requirements. Facilitate patient care activities through communications with residents, parents of patients, and referring dental practices. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Attention to detail with dates, numbers and names. Exceptional multitasking and time management skills. Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Preference given to candidates fluent in reading, writing, and speaking the Spanish language. Will also prefer candidates with electronic patient record systems experience and scheduling for a medical or dental front office.
