As Patient Companion, you will help facilitate this mission by providing compassionate and top-quality care within the Behavioral Health Unit. In this role, you will assist RNs, physicians and other staff in coordinating and fulfilling treatment plans. All the while, you will receive numerous opportunities to pursue professional growth, educational development and career success. A caregiver in this position works varying shifts from 6:45AM – 7:15PM, with two holiday and every other weekend requirements. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Assist with direct and indirect patient care for one to two patients, such as rooming, taking vital signs/weight and pulse oximetry. Assure patient safety by ensuring catheters, tubes or other medical equipment have not been removed or disconnected. Accompany and assist patients at all times, including transport, tests, transfers, ambulation. Identify and report changes in patient status to an RN or physician. Complete all documentation and provide hand-off communication to caregivers responsible for the patient. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: High School Diploma or GED Heartsaver level of Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon or within three months of hire Completion of a hospital-based Patient Companion Training Program or equivalent experience OR currently enrolled at an accredited school of Nursing, with completion of a Nursing Fundamentals Course OR completed hospital-based NA/PC orientation or equivalent Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities, such as basic hygiene, skin care and vital signs Our caregivers continue to create the best outcomes for our patients across each of our facilities. Physical Requirements:
Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking. Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
