Additionally, under the direct supervision of licensed nurses, thenursing assistant performs various duties to assist in the care ofpatients in accordance with established policies andprocedures. These duties include, but are not limited to, bathing, mouth care,ambulation assistance, toilet assistance, feeding, measuring vitalsigns and blood glucose, and transporting. Responsibilities Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Measure and record blood pressure, respirations, temperature, andpulse rate. Differentiate between normal and abnormal vital signsand when to report them to the RN. Successfully weigh a patient andrecord. Apply telemetry pads and leads. Assess FSBS, record.
Differentiate normal and abnormal values and when to report to theRN. Feed patients. Calculate and record meal consumptionpercentage. Prepare skin for a surgical procedure. Utilize turningand devices to prevent pressure ulcers. Keep the patient’senvironment clean and free of clutter. Measure and record intakeand output. Collect specimens. Perform a total bath. Performappropriate perineal care. Wash patient’s hair. Perform oralhygiene. Change linen on occupied and unoccupied bed. Assist withambulation of the patient. Perform active and passive range ofmotion. Position and reposition the patient. Assist withtransferring the patient. Understand and apply principles of DVTprophylaxis Empty drains and record. Provide care to the patientwith a colostomy. Properly care for the patient with a foleycatheter. Perform a bladder scan and record. Remove Foley Catheterand Intravenous Lines Follow implemented strategies for thereduction of falls. Perform non-sterile dressing changes. Hunt and gather supplies for the RN.
