Performs a variety of activities related to the transportationof patients and equipment, greet and assist patients and visitorsas directed.
Job Function:
1. Transports patients to and from clinical, ancillary and supportareas via wheelchair, stretcher or beds as requested to includetransport of patients with oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, dripsand special equipment. With assistance, transfers patients to orfrom beds, wheelchairs or stretchers as needed. During discharge,assist patients in and out of vehicles and escorts or transportsthem to and from hospital lobby. Serves, as needed, as a member ofthe Hospital’s Lift Team. Properly indicates patient locationsduring transports through the use of HEV. Responds to transportrequests in a timely manner. 2. Prolonged periods of standing, walking, or sitting while onduty. Lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds with or withoutassistance. Transferring, repositioning patients. Reaching,stooping, bending, kneeing, and crouching for patient carefunctions. Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterityessential to performing designated duties required. Optimalauditory acuity required. Manual dexterity involving the handlingof equipment and instruments or needles is essential to performingassigned duties. Ability to perform effectively in a stressful andfast-paced environment. Ability to pass all required health andother screening tests. Physical conditions are clean, neat and welllit. Maybe subjected to unpleasant sights and odors, stressfulsituations and hazardous or infectious agents where judgment as toprecautions need to be taken is essential. Climate control andambient temperature variances may be experienced. Exposure tolimited amounts of hazardous chemicals or substances and infectiousdisease processes are a possibility. Hours of duty maybe irregularor unexpectedly extended due to emergency circumstances. Directcontact with blood or other body fluids to which universalprecautions apply. Personal protective equipment is made availableand must be worn.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent
Work Experience:
Sufficient experience in health care or healthagency setting preferred

Must demonstrate ability to recognize patients’individual needs based on medical conditions, age (pediatrics,adolescents, young adults, middle aged, and geriatric), limitationsand planned procedures
