Position Summary:
Works under the direct supervision of the Director, Patient Transport/Service Response Center. The Patient Transporter is responsible for transporting patients, charts and patient care equipment such as Wheelchairs, Stretchers, Beds, Oxygen tanks and IV Poles efficiently throughout the facility.

Responsibilities:
Transport patients between nursing units, diagnostic areas, doctors’ suites, and other areas of the hospital. Practices Hand washing technique for direct patient care. Transporters should not lift or assist in any lifting of patients. If Patient needs assistance, ask nursing for help. Consistently uses 2 patient identifiers when picking up patient for transport. Determines patient name, destination, mode of travel, time and other relevant data, following notification from the Patient Tracking Systems (TDSS) or the Service Response Center. Reports to work on time, logs into and out of both the Kronos and Patient Tracking systems (TDSS) upon the start and end of each shift. Reports to work well-groomed and in uniform consistent with the Department dress code. Wears ID badge while on duty. Identifies equipment malfunctions, removes equipment from service and informs supervisor. Make sure equipment is clean before using for transport. Makes sure all necessary transport documents are transported and handed off at their destination (chart). Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, guests, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment. Commits to recognize and respect cultural diversity for all customers (internal and external). Communicates effectively with internal and external customers with respect to differences in cultures, values, beliefs and ages, utilizing interpreters when needed. Respects the dignity of all by maintaining their privacy and respecting confidentiality. Adheres to administrative and departmental house rules, policies, procedures and objectives. BASIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/APTITUDE/EXPERIENCE

Adheres to safety, health and regulatory (e.g.
TJC, OSHA, HIPPA
) requirements. Must attend all mandatory education classes. Actively practices principles learned including but not limited to the following topics: Ensures the proper use of body mechanics, adherence to prescribed Infection Control and Patient Identification protocols. Adheres to universal precautions, patient rights, fire & general safety, disaster preparedness, hazard communications, and promotes continuous process improvement.
Education/Experience/Licenses/Technical/Other:
Education:
High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Experience :
No previous experience is required. Experience in patient care desirable.
Certification/Licensure:
BLS required (Training and Certification provided after hire).
Software/Hardware:
Proficient in iOS and Android Devices functions
Other:
Read, write, understand, and communicate the English language. Ongoing supervision is provided on a regular basis. Desired results are clearly defined, however, some independent judgment is necessary to select and apply the most appropriate procedures to achieve those results. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Read, comprehend, and follow written and verbal instructions.
