Primary Objectives The Personal Trainer is a key line-level position responsible for creating a non-intimidating and customer service driven environment that supports and encourages a fit and healthy lifestyle. The Personal Trainer delivers elite level training and coaching to members and guests also, maintains organization of member training data, member commination, and member usage. This job description is not an all-inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of this position. Essential Functions Continually monitors facility, including locker rooms, for cleanliness and tidiness. Attends and/or holds weekly or bi-weekly meetings. Defines member baseline by administering assessments. Ensures member readiness for change by administering member goal assessment. Ensures current knowledge of exercise techniques and trends. Ensures current knowledge of exercise library, exercise progression, and exercise regression. Conducts opening and closing procedures, as needed. Maintains member data organization utilizing digital cloud storage. Reports program budgets, requisitioning equipment, and supplies as needed for the Fitness Center to the Manager-Wellness Responsible for reporting any unsafe conditions, hazards, and violations to the Director-Recreation. Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records and reports. Properly interprets makes decisions in accordance with appropriate laws, regulations, and policies. Conducts service appointments with members including body fat analysis, nutritional coaching, proper use of fitness equipment, and proper from of exercises. Consults with members to determine and define needs and problem areas. Advises members on methods of solving fitness needs or problems and recommends specific solutions. Continually monitors and assists to ensure proper form when performing exercises. Ensures that all participants are trained on the use of the facilities exercise equipment. Tracks sessions and session attrition via scheduling software. Creates, instructs, and delivers organized individual/group classes. Ensures safe exercise practice through observation, correction, assistance and answering questions. Greets guests and responds to guest inquires and service issues in a timely, friendly, and efficient manner. Supervises the appropriate staff which includes general supervision, performance evaluations, disciplinary, leave approval, and timesheets. Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate person. Job Requirements Associate degree in related field and/or a combination of education and related employment experience equivalent to two (2) years required. Two (2) years of related employment experience in a fitness setting and/or wellness program required. One (1) year of experience training clients one-on-one and/or group sessions. One (1) year of supervisory experience preferred. Certified Personal Trainer required. Certified in any (1) of the following: AAPTE-Academy of Applied Personal Training Education, AFAA-Aerobics & Fitness Association of America, ACE-American Council on Exercise, ACSM-American College of Sports Medicine, CI-Cooper Institute, IFPA-International Fitness Professionals Association, ISSA-International Sports Sciences Association, NASM-National Academy of Sports Medicine, NCCPT-National Council for Certified Personal Trainers, NCSF-National Council of Strength and Fitness, NESTA-National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association, NETA-National Exercise Trainers Association, NFPT-National Federation of Personal Trainers, NSCA-National Strength and Conditioning Association, TWCC-Training Wellness Certification Commission, Crossfit, POT CCP, Strong First, Russian Kettlebell Certification, Functional Movement Screen, USA Weight Lifting, NAFC- Native American Fitness Council. Must possess First Aid Certification, including CPR and Life Saving, or obtain certification within ninety (90) days of official date of hire in this position. Must possess certification of “Mandatory Reporter Training” or obtain during the first week of employment. Must possess “ServSafe Certification” or obtain within thirty (30) days of employment. Ability to work odd and irregular hours, as needed. Must possess a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record according to Tribal insurance guidelines. Must successfully pass the required criminal and character background check. Ability to travel and participate in required training, leadership development, and other events. Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities of this position adequately and successfully. Core Competencies Required Absolute confidentiality. Must have thorough knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology, and physical fitness training methods and routines. Must possess character that earns the confidence of program participants and community and minimizes public criticism or complaints. Must have professional approach to the job and be able to communicate on a professional level. Must have knowledge of which exercises and sports are helpful, and which are potentially harmful to people in all stages of fitness and those individuals with specific medical conditions. Must have knowledge of nutrition and dieting methods. Must conduct personal and professional behavior in such a manner as to instill and maintain the confidence of the Indian children, parents, and community, and minimize public criticism or complaint. Must have professional approach to the job and be able to communicate on a professional level. Must possess character that earns the confidence of program participants and community and minimizes public criticism or complaints. Must be able to stand, walk, reach, kneel, or crouch for the majority of the work hours and frequently lift or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Ability to remain engaged until assignments are completed and overcome obstacles. Takes accountability for performance and results. Open and honest communicator and follows policies and procedures. Compensation and Benefits The starting pay will depend on factors such as experience level and skillset.
