JobSummary:

The Staff Pharmacist, Pharmacy Per Diem, CertifiedPharmacist, and Staff Pharmacist III are responsible for thedispensing and monitoring of medication therapy in accordance withall applicable regulations and standards. Essential Generic JobFunctions (List in order of importance):

  • Complies with all stateand federal regulations and Medical Center policies and proceduresrelating to drug dispensing, including appropriate handling of drugproducts, adherence to security procedures, and completion ofnecessary documentation. This includes appropriate control anddispensing of controlled dangerous substances and investigationaldrugs.
  • Reviews and dispenses medication orders and clarifies anyand all potential problems with orders.
  • Monitors patient drugtherapy regimens for allergies, drug-drug interactions, drug-foodinteractions, and potential adverse reactions.
  • Prepares admixturesusing aseptic technique (e.g., IV solutions, TPN, chemotherapy)
  • Performs assigned unit inspections to assure proper maintenanceand storage of medication supplies, including emergency drugsupplies.
  • Oversees activities of ancillary personnel (PharmacyTechnicians and Assistant/Couriers).
  • Employs principles of safemedication practice as dictated by departmental and organizationalpolicies and procedures.
  • Lifts a minimum of 10 lbs., pushes andpulls a minimum of 40 lbs., and stands a minimum of 4 hours a day
  • Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifiesand delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age,culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.) Thisprocess includes communicating with the patient, parent and/orprimary caregiver(s) at their level (developing/age, educational,literacy, etc.).
  • Adheres to the standards identified in theMedical Center’s Organizational Competencies.
EducationRequirement:
Required Education:
  • Graduate of an APCE accreditedschool of pharmacy, or equivalent, with a minimum of a BS degree inPharmacy.
Required Certifications & Licensure:
  • Valid New JerseyPharmacist License.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Required Skills &Experience:

1 Year of acute care Chemo trained experience

  • Required3 years HIGHLY Preferred/ Chemotherapy Review and PreparationSkills-Required. Good communication teamwork
  • Preferred Managerwill be interviewing candidates.

Hands on experience with review of patient chemotherapy treatmentprotocols for proper dosing. Preparation of patient specificchemotherapy infusion/ injectable orders in a USP 800 environmentusing closed system transfer devices Preferred Skills & Experience

  • 1-2 years of hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Knowledge of unit dosedispensing and principles of aseptic technique and related computerapplications.
