Description:

The StaffPharmacist is responsible for the dispensing and monitoring ofmedication therapy in accordance with all applicable regulationsand standards. Complies with all state and federal regulations andpolicies and procedures relating to drug dispensing. Handles drugproducts appropriately, adheres to security procedures, andcompletes necessary documentation. Controls and dispensescontrolled substances and investigational drugs. Reviews anddispenses medication orders and clarifies potential problems withorders. Monitors patient drug therapy regimens for allergies,drug-drug interactions, and potential adverse reactions. Preparesadmixtures using aseptic technique. Performs unit inspections toassure proper maintenance and storage of medication supplies.

Oversees activities of ancillary personnel including pharmacytechnicians and assistants. Employs principles of safe medicationpractice as dictated by departmental and organizational policies.

Lifts a minimum of 10 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 40 lbs.,and stands a minimum of 4 hours a day. Identifies the needs of thepatient population served and modifies and delivers care specificto those needs. Communicates with patients, parents, and/or primarycaregivers at their level. Adheres to the standards identified inorganizational competencies. Hands-on experience with review ofpatient chemotherapy treatment protocols for proper dosing isrequired. Preparation of patient-specific chemotherapyinfusion/injectable orders in a USP 800 environment using closedsystem transfer devices is required. Preferred skills include 1-2years of hospital pharmacy experience and knowledge of unit dosedispensing and aseptic technique. Required education includesgraduation from an accredited school of pharmacy with a minimum ofa BS degree in Pharmacy.
