Under the leadership of the Director of Pharmacy and thePharmacy Operations Manager, this position is responsible foroverseeing the pharmacy day-to-day Sterile and Non-SterileOperations within the Nemours Children’s Hospital (NCH) to ensurethat patient pharmaceutical needs are effectively met. Thispharmacist is responsible for coordinating, monitoring andmaintaining Sterile and Non-Sterile Products pharmacy serviceswhile assuring patient safety through providing clinical,pharmaceutical, operational and regulatory knowledge of sterile andnon-sterile products. This pharmacist will provide oversight ofSterile Products clean room operations, Non-Sterile productsoperations, compounding personnel, aseptic technique and sterileproduct production practices, non-sterile production practices,Pyxis and the CII safe area while maintaining accuracy, safety, andthe reduction of waste through the implementation of StandardizedOperating Procedures for Sterile and Non-Sterile Productsprocessing. Position Responsibilities Supervise the day-to-day Sterile and Non-Sterile Productsproduction and drug distribution system, evaluate alternatives, andfollow up on issues and concerns. Submit Epic tickets for any issues related to compounding &repackaging records and the order verification of Sterile andNon-Sterile Products including subsequent validation within Epic ofresolution. Identify and resolve pharmacy Sterile and Non-Sterile Productsline service problems. Enforce policies and procedures that promote cost effective,appropriate, and safe medication use. Coordinate the activities of the Pharmacy Staff completingSterile and Non-Sterile Products processes to provide optimalpharmaceutical support to patients that is safe, cost effective,and appropriate. Coordinate and organize the Sterile and Non-Sterile Productsprocesses by establishing workload requirements and delegatingassignments to maintain an appropriate staffing level and ensurethat the services and responsibilities of the department areprovided in a timely and quality manner. Coordinate production schedules based on projected staffingpatterns, workload, and utilization in such a way that minimizesstock outs ( Responsible for and ensure strict control and accountabilityfor Sterile and Non-Sterile medications dispensed to patients ordistributed to floor stock. 5 a. Investigate and analyze incidentreports focused on Sterile and Non-Sterile Products, Pyxis and CIIsafe area. 6. Monitor and ensure Sterile and Non-Sterile Productspractice conforms to the Pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures andReliable Methods for the appropriate and efficient preparation andutilization of sterile pharmaceutical products within NemoursChildren’s (NCH), including: 6 a. Monitor to ensure thatmedications are prepared accurately in appropriate containers,labeled in an appropriate manner and stored in the recommendedenvironment (temperature, humidity, lighting, etc.) in a mannerthat minimizes cost due to wastage. 6 b. Monitor and ensure thephysical appearance, functions, safety and staff behaviorperformance in Sterile and Non-Sterile Products processing conformsto Nemours Children’s (NCH) standards. 6 c. Develop, review, andupdate Standard Operating Procedures of Sterile and Non-SterileProducts departmental processes to ensure that the proceduresreflects changes in operational procedures and/or current standardof practice. 7. Perform other related duties as assigned byauthorized personnel to provide departmental flexibility to patientcare needs including those for emergency situations such as: 7 a.

Acting as a Clinical Staff Pharmacist when necessary 7 b. Providingdrug information and functioning as an information resource 8. Incoordination and partnership with the Pharmacy Operations Manager,ensure the scheduling of appropriate and competent technician andpharmacist staff for the efficient and effective operation of theSterile and Non-Sterile Products Production in the Department ofPharmacy. 8 a. Coordinate orientations and educational in-serviceprograms for the Pharmacy staff on the appropriate utilization ofSterile and Non-Sterile Production Pharmacy Services which includenon-hazardous and hazardous sterile clean room areas, Pyxis and theCII safe area. 8 b. Monitor and ensure Sterile and Non-SterileProducts orientation, training and education of all new clinicalpharmacists, clinical specialists, technicians and students is 100% completed for their specific staffing responsibilities. Thisincludes Pyxis and the CII safe area. 8 c. Monitor and evaluatework performance of assigned Pharmacy Technicians includingproviding and documenting formal feedback to personnel whennecessary, recommending and initiating personnel action, andproviding and documenting employee appraisal processes. 9.Responsible for compliance with Joint Commission and otherregulatory standards as they apply to assigned duties andresponsibilities. 9 a. Develop Sterile and Non-Sterile Productsprocedures that ensure the pharmacy department meets all legal,accreditation, and certification requirements posted by the FDA,Board of Pharmacy, Board of Health, DEA, CMS, USP 795, USP 797, USP800 and Joint Commis sion. Extensive knowledge of USP 795/797/800regulations. Ability to work with information systems, automatedand technical equipment. Ability to manage direct reports andestablish and maintain working relationships with various memberswithin and outside the department. Lean Management Principlespreferred Knowledge of Improvement, Change management, Quality &Safety Principles for Healthcare preferred. Hospital Regulatoryexperience in both Sterile IV room areas and Non-sterile Pharmacyareas as well as Management of Direct Reports. 10. Lead and ensureongoing measurement and improvement of Sterile and Non-SterileProducts pharmacy operations. 10 a. Implement and administrateSterile and Non-Sterile Products processes that identifiespotential system vulnerabilities, establishes medication safetybest practices and facilitates medication safety improvementprojects. This includes the management of current technology andimplementation of new technology. 10 b. Implement and administrateSterile Product audits and tracers programs and respond to theresults to ensure quality of Sterile Products pharmacy servicesusing PDCA methodology. This includes the trending of environmentalsampling. 10 c. Promote and use Lean management principles as thedepartment’s primary tool for ensuring a high reliability culture(5S, elimination of waste, JIT, standard work, quality), promoteand comply with standardized procedures/work, identify “waste” inSterile and Non-Sterile Products process and recommend solutionsfor implementation and correct abnormal conditions. 10 d. Act as aliaison with Nursing and Medical staff concerning Sterile andNon-Sterile Product issues and Pyxis issues. 10 e. Investigate andanalyze incident reports focused on Sterile and Non-SterileProducts, Pyxis and CII safe area.
