Travel Job Summary:
TheStaff Pharmacist, Pharmacy Per Diem, Certified Pharmacist, andStaff Pharmacist III are responsible for the dispensing andmonitoring of medication therapy in accordance with all applicableregulations and standards. Essential Generic Job Functions (List inorder of importance):
- Complies with all state and federalregulations and Medical Center policies and procedures relating todrug dispensing, including appropriate handling of drug products,adherence to security procedures, and completion of necessarydocumentation. This includes appropriate control and dispensing ofcontrolled dangerous substances and investigational drugs.
- Reviewsand dispenses medication orders and clarifies any and all potentialproblems with orders.
- Monitors patient drug therapy regimens forallergies, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, andpotential adverse reactions.
- Prepares admixtures using aseptictechnique (e.g., IV solutions, TPN, chemotherapy).
- Performsassigned unit inspections to assure proper maintenance and storageof medication supplies, including emergency drug supplies
- Oversees activities of ancillary personnel (Pharmacy Techniciansand Assistant/Couriers).
- Employs principles of safe medicationpractice as dictated by departmental and organizational policiesand procedures.
- Lifts a minimum of 10 lbs., pushes and pulls aminimum of 40 lbs., and stands a minimum of 4 hours a day
- Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifiesand delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age,culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.) Thisprocess includes communicating with the patient, parent and/orprimary caregiver(s) at their level (developing/age, educational,literacy, etc.).
- Adheres to the standards identified in theMedical Center’s Organizational Competencies.
Skills:
PreferredSkills & Experience:
- 1-2 years of hospital pharmacy experience
- Knowledge of unit dose dispensing and principles of aseptictechnique and related computer applications.
Education:
RequiredEducation:
- Graduate of an APCE accredited school of pharmacy, orequivalent, with a minimum of a BS degree in Pharmacy.
RequiredCertifications & Licensure:
- 3725 Certified Pharmacist
- Must havetaken and passed their board certification exam and received theappropriate certificate indicating attainment of boardcertification (certification may be obtained in the general area ofpharmaceuticals or in a specialty).
