Job Description UPMC Community Pharmacy is looking for a fulltime Lead Pharmacist to join their dedicated team at MageeOutpatient Pharmacy. /n The Lead Pharmacist will ensure the timelyprovision of cost-effective drug therapy contributing to optimalpatient outcomes, provide experimental education for present andfuture health care practitioners, and support drug-relatedresearch. /n This role will work eight hours shifts during thedepartment operating hours of 8:30 am and 5:15 pm. /n UPMC offers agenerous benefits package, an expansive total rewards package,opportunity to grow your career and much more. Responsibilities:

- Coordinate the daily activities of thepharmacy technicians and pharmacists in their area ofpractice/responsibility. Demonstrate a service orientation towardpatients, staff and visitors. /n
- Coach and mentor their staffthrough feedback, positive discipline and performance evaluations./n
- Direct and schedule personnel assigned to their team.
Authorize extra hours and overtime as required. /n
- Developworkflow guidelines, policies and procedures, and other necessarytools (assignment sheets, scheduling, etc.) to maximizeproductivity and standardize practices in the department and/orpractice area. /n

- Workcollaboratively with team members, other lead technicians, leadpharmacists and pharmacy managers to evaluate workflow andimplement service ideas. /n
- Facilitate and/or assist withdevelopment of quality improvement and cost-reduction initiativesbased on JCAHO indicators and department target drug monitoringprojects. /n
- Maintain collaborative relationships with ClinicalDirector/Primary Care Nurses/Physicians via handling patient careissues as they arise. Consult with Pharmacy Manager as appropriate./n
- Conduct necessary meeting with pharmacy team members and/orhealth care team members to facilitate servicechanges/improvements. /n
- Complete all staff competencies andperform duties of staff pharmacist as listed below /n
- Evaluateeach patient’s medication order/prescription for appropriateness ofdrug selection, drug dosage and dosage form, taking intoconsideration patient specific factors such as disease state(s),age, weight, sex, eliminating organ function, diagnosis andallergies.
Apply pharmacokinetic principles when appropriate.
Consult with prescriber for corrections or clarifications ifneeded. /n
- Use computer skills to process patient medicationorders/prescriptions and maintain all necessary patientinformation. /n
- Assure that the proper drug is dispensed to thecorrect patient for administration at the appropriate time, andthat proper technique is used in the preparation of drugs /n
- Supervise the daily activities and assist in training and educationof pharmacy technicians and student interns. /n
- Provide timely,comprehensive and accurate drug information to physicians, nurses,patients and personnel of other departments. /n
- Participate inthe education and training of present and future healthcarepractitioners, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, pharmacyresidents and pharmacy students. /n
- Support drug-related researchby assisting in the procurement, accountability, storage,preparation and distribution of study drugs. Design and coordinateresearch as appropriate. /n
- Audit and maintain accurate recordsfor all controlled substances. /n
- Assure that all such drugs arestored and dispensed in compliance with Federal, State andDepartment Regulations. /n
- Assure adequate inventory of drugs andsupplies necessary for proper patient care.
Assist in theprocurement as needed, by following established procedures.
Maintainprofessional competency through participation in continuingeducation and staff development programs. Provide formal andinformal in-service education activities.
Participate in thedepartmental quality improvement program in order to continuallyimprove and evaluate pharmaceutical care as reflected byoperational and patient care indicators. /n
- Implement Pharmacyand Therapeutics Committee policies including, but not limited to,drug usage evaluation, formulary restrictions, adverse drugreaction reporting and therapeutic and generic substitutions. /n
- Demonstrate the required attendance and punctuality as scheduled./n
- Serve as an active team member, making positive contributionsto patient care outcomes and department goals. /n
- Assure that theproper drug is dispensed to the correct patient in a timely manner,& that proper technique is used in the preparation of drugs. VerifyNDC numbers of drug used to fill the prescription with the NDCnumber on the prescription. /n
- Supervise the daily activities &assist in the training & education of pharmacy technicians &student interns. /n
- Provide feedback when appropriate. /n
- Participate in the education & training of present & future healthcare practitioners, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists,pharmacy residents, & pharmacy students. /n
- Maintain thefinancial accountability of the department by assuring that properprocedures are used in the third party rejects in a timely manner./n
- Performs in accordance with system-widecompetencies/behaviors. /n
- Performs other duties as assigned. /n/n
- B.
S. degree or a Pharm.
D. degree from an accredited School ofPharmacy required. /n
- Post licensure experience preferred. /n
- Minimum 5 years post licensure Pharmacist experience required.
