Leadership &Direction:
- Manages, coordinates, and controls daily operations inthe assigned pharmacy area(s).
- Manages the activities ofAssociates; monitors performance, clarifies work expectations,establishes goals, and promotes cooperation among individuals andgroups.
- Develops and implements processes through orientation,training and education to ensure that the competence of all staffmembers is assessed, maintained, improved and demonstrated.
- Provides leadership for educational programs for staff, internsand/or residents in collaboration with the pharmacy team.
- Plansand schedules work ensuring distribution of assignments andadequate staffing based on workload and productivity standards.
Business Planning/Financial
- Assists in managing fiscal operationsincluding preparation of expense and capital budgetrecommendations, monitoring, verifying, and authorizingexpenditures. Assists in the development and implementation ofplans to control costs and improve department operations.
- Develops and supports business plans and strategies for pharmacypractice, assists with goal setting, and translates goals intooperational tactics at the service level.
- Prepares operationalreports and analyses for the department; makes recommendations ordraws conclusions from operational data.
- Monitors services toensure effective use of resources and assess needs for staff,equipment, and services based on actual or projected utilization.
Quality/Regulatory
- Monitors trends by analyzing departmentalprocedures; identifies opportunities for operational efficienciesand quality of services provided.
- Stays abreast of currentpractices and trends in the field of specialization, and uses andintroduces best practice methodology to ensure continuedimprovement in care delivery. Maintains required competencies topractice pharmacy in assigned area(s).
- Participates in researchstudies focused on improving medication use.
- Assists withdevelopment and maintenance of performance standards to includequality assessment/improvement programs.
- Identifies and evaluatessafety and risk management issues; intervenes and problem solves asrequired.
- Reviews and maintains departmental policies andprocedures on a regular basis.
- Ensures department adherence toethical, legal, regulatory, accreditation, and professionalstandards that govern pharmacy practice. Collaboration/WorkingRelationships
- Ensures good working relationships betweendepartments; serves as a resource and liaison for advanced problemsolving related to pharmacy services.
- Establishes relationshipswith key internal and external customers and service providers;builds strong collaborative relationships with the medical staff.
- Investigates and coordinates resolution of service deliveryproblems or conflicts; formulates plans for resolution, follows-upto ensure effective resolution, and determines level ofsatisfaction.
- Participates in national, state, and/or localprofessional organizations that support pharmacy professionalpractice.

SupervisionProvided by this Position Manages the work of clinical and/ornon-clinical staff supporting the assigned pharmacy area(s). Mayalso direct contracted faculty and residents. Physical Demands Thephysical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing,standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping,and repetitive motion. Must have good balance and coordination. Thephysical requirements of this position are: light work – exertingup to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of forcefrequently. The Associate is required to have close visual acuityto perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data andfigures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensivereading. The conditions to which the Associate will be subject inthis position: The Associate is not substantially exposed toadverse environmental conditions; job functions are typicallyperformed under conditions such as those found in general office oradministrative work. May have exposure to patient body fluids aswell as exposure to infectious disease. Travel may be required onoccasion.
