JOB SUMMARY
Position Summary:
The Pharmacy IV Technician aids in the preparation and compounding of IV medications in a clean room environment. This position involves staging products, operating pharmacy robots, and ensuring cleanliness and compliance with regulatory standards. The robots will then compound the medication and the technician will monitor the robots and collect the product according to procedures. This position requires flexibility to perform duties outside the clean room, including packaging, inventory management, and cross-departmental assistance.
Key Responsibilities:
Clean Room Operations:
Work in a sterile, clean room environment while adhering to safety and cleanliness protocols. Stage medications, IV bags, and other required materials for production runs. Load compounding robots with medications and IV bags, monitor robotic operations, and perform basic troubleshooting. Maintain clean room sterility through regular, thorough cleaning as per schedule.
Clean Room Operations:
Work in a sterile, clean room environment while adhering to all applicable safety and cleanliness protocols. Maintain the clean room’s sterility through regular and thorough cleaning as per the established schedule.
Staging and Preparation:
Stage medications, IV bags, and other required materials for upcoming production runs. Ensure all components are correctly labeled and meet quality assurance standards before loading into robots.
Robot Operation:
Load medications and IV bags into compounding robots according to operational protocols. Monitor robotic operations during the compounding process and resolve basic robotic issues when needed. Assist in calibrating and maintaining the robots for optimal performance.
Product Quality and Safety:
Conduct inspections to verify the accuracy and quality of compounded medications. Adhere to sterile technique and aseptic practices to minimize contamination risks.
Documentation and Compliance:
Maintain accurate records of production runs, including product counts, batch numbers, and any discrepancies. Follow all regulatory guidelines, including those set by
USP , USP
, and other relevant standards.
Flex Day Responsibilities:
When not working in the clean room, the Pharmacy IV Technician will perform other essential pharmacy tasks, including:
Packaging and Kit Building:
Package finished products for delivery or distribution. Build specialized kits for various departments, such as anesthesia, crash carts, or EMS teams.
Stock Management:
Assist in inventory control by moving and organizing stock and restocking supplies. Conduct regular inventory checks to ensure sufficient stock levels.
Order and Schedule Support:
Assist with processing orders and ensuring they are accurately entered and tracked. Collaborate with team members to maintain and adjust schedules as needed for operational efficiency.
Cross-Department Assistance:
Support the trays team by assembling and verifying trays for anesthesia and crash carts. Help EMS departments by preparing and organizing emergency medical service kits.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; pharmacy technician certification (CPhT) preferred. Experience in a sterile clean room or healthcare environment is an advantage. Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in medication preparation and kit assembly. Ability to work collaboratively across different teams and departments. Basic mechanical aptitude for operating and troubleshooting robotic equipment. Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and adjust priorities as needed.
Working Conditions:
Comfortable working in sterile clean room attire (gowns, gloves, masks, etc.). Ability to lift and move stock, medications, and equipment as needed. Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends or holidays, to support 24/7 operations. Willingness to cross-train in various areas of the pharmacy to provide well-rounded support.
