Job Description

Oncology Pharmacy Technician 3.7 3.7 out of 5 stars Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33418 Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Pharmacy, the Oncology Pharmacy Technician is responsible for performing the technical aspects of IV medication preparation, distribution, record keeping, and inventory control. Tasks are subjected to sequential or final verification by a registered nurse or a registered pharmacist. Extreme accuracy must rule general principles of sterility and dosing associated with compounding of all IVs.

Essential Functions:

Prepare and dispense IV supportive, immunotherapy, and chemotherapy medications upon physician’s orders as needed. Ensures notes from EMR are accurately reviewed prior to dispensing. Checks all orders for completeness of information; verifies patient information and proper authorization. Ensure appropriate and orderly inventory and storage of replacement medications. Ensure proper record keeping including controlled substances. Oversee pharmaceutical inventory; ordering through current suppliers, stocking, restocking and management using electronic inventory system. Assist patients/physicians with prescriptions/refills as needed. Perform daily reconciliation of dispensed medications: comparing electronic dispense data with patients receiving treatment, proper waste calculations, etc. Complete weekly physical inventory count, sign/date, and send to Assistant Director of Pharmacy. Maintain an active Florida State Pharmacy Technician License.

Secondary Responsibilities:

Ensures compliance with established company and regulatory guidelines and procedures in order to provide high quality patient services and outstanding patient care. Maintains confidentiality of all information; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations. Ability to come to work and work the regular schedule and shift for the position. Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. Ability to maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, other federal, state and local standards and company attendance policies and procedures. Compliance with all personnel, operating, and financial policies and procedures. Additional duties to be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum three years in an IV pharmacy setting. Able to accurately read and enter medication orders into the pharmacy information system. Knowledge of diagnostic (ICD-10), procedural (CPT) coding and oncology terminology preferred. Working knowledge of healthcare insurance, particularly Medicare part D and Commercial Insurances. Experience with IV dose calculations preferred. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Florida State Pharmacy Technician License Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Pharmacy inventory software, Microsoft Office Applications, and the ability to operate basic internet software. The individual should be able to operate a computer in order to accurately enter data into a database, search for information, send and receive email and attachments. Must use the internet to access schedules, research insurance information, etc. Work requires extensive work using a computer.
