Description:

Assist pharmacists in promoting anorganized and functional pharmacy service. Prepare medications fordispensing and maintain records. Alert pharmacy director,coordinator, clinical coordinator, or pharmacist of immediateproblems requiring corrective action in a timely manner. Screennursing and physician inquiries and phone calls by directing themto the appropriate pharmacist to ensure accurate and timelycommunication. Perform special projects, including the training ofnew technicians and overseeing their activities, and otheractivities as assigned to increase and improve the level ofservice, skill level, and productivity. Attain professional growthby participating in a minimum of 10 hours of continuing educationannually. Maintain patient and other records using pharmacycomputers and manual systems to ensure timely and accurate patientbillings and compliance with regulatory agencies. Facilitate themaintenance of adequate supplies by logging needs in inventoryrecords. Process daily IV slips, assisting with workloadstatistics. Accurately fill unit dose carts, floor stock,medication orders, and deliver them to patient care areas to ensurethe availability of ordered drugs and supplies. Demonstrateknowledge in the use and stocking of automated medication cabinets.

Accurately prepare I.V. admixtures using sterile techniques.

Prepare prescriptions for pharmacist review and dispensingaccurately and in a timely manner. Accurately compound specialtyitems. Pre-package and label bulk medications for unit dose/unit ofuse dispensing with computer and associated equipment. Check floorstock and pharmacy stock for outdates, overstock, and properstorage on a monthly basis to ensure the use of high-qualitymedications. Maintain a cost-effective inventory of bulk items,utilizing soon-to-expire items quickly and decreasing overstock ofinventory. Demonstrate technical skill level in utilizing a varietyof pharmaceutical competencies including calculations, aseptictechnique, and cytotoxic drug properties. Floating may be requiredto any location within sixty (60) miles of the original assignmentlocation or identified float zone. Float assignments may includeduties outside of original assignment job requirements inaccordance with policy.
