Pascagoula, Mississippi United States Position Overview:

The Pharmacy Purchasing Technician is responsible for all aspects of pharmaceutical purchasing, inventory control, analysis and reporting within the Singing River Pharmacy Department and all departments and clinics in the Health System, as assigned. Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, ensures patients receive the correct medication; packages and labels medication doses; fills routine orders for stock supplies to patient care areas; and assists in all aspects of IV admixture preparation and delivery. They comply with the standards, ethics, laws and regulations governing the practice of pharmacy, including the MS Board of Pharmacy and all accrediting organizations as applicable. Expectation is for all performed duties to be in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures and policies, accreditation organization, and governing guidance and publications for health care employees

Education:

High school graduate or equivalent required. Graduate of a pharmacy technician training program preferred.

License:

Must possess and maintain a valid Pharmacy Technician License and Registration from the Mississippi Board of Pharmacy.

Certifications:

Certification as a Pharmacy Technician by the Pharmacy Technicians Certification Board (PTCB) OR the National Healthcare Association (NHA) preferred; certification must be maintained as specified or required by the examining authority.

Experience:

Minimum of two years’ experience in purchasing related or materials management field or two years’ work experience in hospital pharmacy preferred. Experience working with vendor contracts preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations. 340B experience preferred Reports to:

None Physical Demands:

Stands, turns, bends, stoops, lifts, climbs, and uses many physical motions in performing day-to-day activities. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and do a great deal of walking without experiencing undue fatigue. Work involves being able to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels, with or without correction. Must demonstrate the ability to communicate, speak, and enunciate to express/exchange ideas and detailed information in person and on the telephone. Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity, with or without correction, with the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, i.e. shift gaze from viewing a computer monitor to forms that are closer to compare data at close vision. Must be able to work for extended periods of time without experiencing undue fatigue. Must be able to work flexible hours.

Mental Demands:

Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities. Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone. Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels. Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required. Must work with the realization that errors may have serious consequences to patient care.

Special Demands:

Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette. Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.).
