Pharmacy Technician, Associate rates start at $18.04.Pharmacy Technician, Intermediate rates start at 18.24. PharmacyTechnician, Senior rates start at 18.44. /n

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked work environment./n
  • Prepare and handle medications safely and accurately. /n
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory documentation and storageguidelines. /n
  • Develop positive relationships during medicationdistribution. /n
  • Participate in medication distribution andcontrolled substances management. /n
  • Engage in qualityimprovement activities to enhance patient care. /n
  • Use computerskills for patient information and pharmacy systems. /n
  • Conductsales transactions and handle cash according to procedures. /n
  • Maintain accurate records for medications and controlledsubstances. /n
  • Assist in preparing and distributing medicationsfor patient use.

Pharmacy Technician, Associate:

  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required AND one ofthe following:/n /n
  • Completion of an accredited pharmacytechnician program /n
  • Six months of previous pharmacy technicianexperience /n
  • Six months experience as a Pharmacy Assistantwithin the UPMC Health System /n
  • Enrollment in an undergraduatepharmacy program and in good standing /n /n /n /n
PharmacyTechnician, Intermediate:

/n /n

  • Completion of high school diplomaor equivalent OR Completion of an accredited pharmacy technicianprogram /n
  • One of the following/n /n
  • Two years of previousPharmacy Technician experience /n
  • Enrollment in good standing asa pharmacy student. /n /n /n
  • Demonstrated competency in THREE (3)of the following

  • QUALITY IMPROVEMENT

    participation in an active role as a lead contributor/developer indepartment and collaborative quality improvement, assist in datacollection, program implementation and reporting of results. /n

  • PRIOR AUTHORIZATION PROCESSING

    possess a high level of knowledgeregarding insurance prior authorization process includingcommunication with patient and health care providers, understandingof documentation needed from medical records and pharmacy benefitmanagement websites, ability to complete needed paperwork andassist in the follow-up with the approval process. /n

  • MEDICATIONACCESS AND ADHERENCE

    assist patients and health care providerswith financial coordination using programs such as: copayassistance, pharmaceutical manufacturer assistance programs,foundation assistance and UPMC program. Promote quality and patienthealth through enrollment and management of adherence programs suchas refill coordination and medication synchronization. /n

DECENTRAL PARTICIPATION

Engage in decentralized technicianactivities including automation management, cassette exchange, andexpiration return, and demonstrate customer service during allinteractions with nurses to facilitate the drug distributionprocess. Monitor pharmacy activities including but not limited toturn around time, stockouts, missing doses, central drop, andAcuDose footprints. /n•

MEDICATION RECONCILIATION

Interviewpatients and appropriate caregivers to obtain admission medicationinformation and accurately enter it into the electronic chart forreview by a pharmacist. Coordinate with health care professionalsto facilitate any medication changes made throughout the hospitalstay and ensure the filling of prescriptions for patients upondischarge. This may include transportation of the physicalprescription and coordination of payment from the patient to theoutpatient pharmacy. /n

  • AUTOMATION

    Possess a high level ofknowledge and skill in working with pharmacy automationtechnologies, including RobotRx and packaging operations. /n

  • ORSERVICES

    Understand and consistently assist with the dailyoperations within the operating room pharmacy, including drawing upsyringes and filling kits, case trays, room boxes, etc., as well asappropriate inventory and ordering practices for OR satellites andareas. /n

  • INVENTORY PROCESSES

    Maintain an understanding of bestpractices associated with inventory control processes, ordering,and receiving medication. Demonstrate a solid understanding relatedto laws, regulations, and policies and procedures related toprocurement. /n

  • NON-STERILE PACKAGING

    Able to package oraldosage forms including liquid formulations in the pharmacypackaging system. /n

  • CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE HANDLING

    Assist withcontrolled substance ordering, receiving, and filling, and maintainappropriate inventory documentation in compliance with Federal,State, and Department Regulations. /n

  • CHEMOTHERAPEUTICPREPARATION

    Consistently has the ability to work in the SterileProduct area preparing cytotoxic and hazardous drugs (e.g.chemotherapy) with a high level of skill and expertise. /n

STERILE COMPOUNDING

Compound IV medications using appropriateaseptic technique in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner.

Utilizing the pharmacy information system, generate any necessarysterile product reports, labels, or makes time changes; discontinueIV solutions with a high level of skill and accuracy. Able toperform the calculations involved in nutritional solutionpreparation. /n

  • ORDER ENTRY

    Assist with the order entry ofmedications into the pharmacy information system including IVadmixtures and TPN (Total Parenteral Nutrition), under thesupervision of a pharmacist. /n

ADJUDICATION/BILLING

Consistently exhibit the following actions; submission ofprescription information to correct insurance processor,troubleshoot and resolve rejected claims, reliably coordinatemultiple benefit payers, including Medicare obtaining all necessarypaperwork including assignment of benefit forms. /n /n /n /n

Pharmacy Technician, Senior:

/n /n

  • Completion of high schooldiploma or equivalent or Completion of an accredited pharmacytechnician program /n
  • Three years of previous pharmacy technicianexperience /n
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification required. /n
  • Demonstrated competency in SIX (6) of the above
