Job Summary:
Prevention 813 and 727 are seeking applicants for the MA position. This position is a key role in patient care and must be enthusiastic about making a positive experience for our patients and their visit. He or she is responsible for performing a variety of medical and clerical duties for the Office. Must have tolerance and acceptance for the LGBTQ community, as this is our main patient base. As a non-profit organization with the mission of creating safe healthcare spaces for LGBTQ+ communities to access health services, the ideal candidate will be well-familiarized with sexual health and HIV prevention, aware of behavioral health interventions, and comfortable engaging in conversations about patients’ sexual health.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
1. Greets, screens, schedules, and directs patients to exam rooms. 2. Performs clerical duties related to clinical services including medical transcription, composition, and dictation into EClinical Works EHR. 3. Prepares and processes correspondence. Answers routine medical administrative inquiries and drafts letters for physicians and other clinical staff. 4. Draws labs as needed. Phlebotomy is required. 5. Obtains, verifies, and updates patient information and provides support services to patients and medical staff. 6. Take vitals, performs EKGs and wellness checks. 7. Requests, locates, sends, and receives patient medical records. 7. Maintains medical appointment books for patients, meetings, travel, etc. 8. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED). Diploma as a medical assistant from an accredited medical vocational course preferred.
Experience:
Minimum two years of Medical assistant experience in a medical office setting.
Other Requirements:
Proficient in the use of eCW for performing key job duties.
Performance Requirements:
Knowledge:
1. Knowledge of medical terminology, excellence in phlebotomy and office procedures. 2. Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type from draft copy and review and edit reports and correspondence. 3. Knowledge of basic arithmetic to make calculations, balance and reconcile figures, and make changes accurately. 4. Knowledge of insurance verification.
Skills:
1. Skill in operating office equipment. 2. Skill in organizational matters including time management, prioritization, and multitasking. 3. Skill in writing and communicating effectively. 4. Skill in problem-solving.
Abilities:
1. Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions. 2. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely. 3. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, physicians and other clinical staff, and the public. 4. Ability to competently use an EMR, as well as Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and eClinical Works. 5. Multi-lingual is preferred.

Work Environment:
Medical office, well lighted, well ventilated. Work may be stressful due to a busy office. Involves frequent contact with staff and patients. Must have tolerance for LGBTQ community as this is our main patient base.
Physical Requirements:
Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with a Medical Assistant such as manual dexterity to operate office machines including computer and calculator; stooping, bending to handle files and supplies, mobility to complete errands or deliveries, or sitting for extended periods of time. Stress can be triggered by multiple staff demands and deadlines.
