Phlebotomist – Fern Park, FL Job Description The primary function of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. Responsibilities Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately. Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data. Decontaminate work areas and update patient information as needed. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections, such as urine or fecal, clearly and courteously. Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understand and execute all physician orders. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. Ensure test requisitions or computer labels match scripts 100% accurately. Package specimens for transport, storing them according to required temperatures. Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, label accurately, and follow procedures necessary to maintain the integrity of the specimens. Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department training sessions. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Essential Skills Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required. Minimum of 6 months’ work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. GED. 0-2
years of relevant experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in pediatric and geriatric phlebotomy. Knowledge of healthcare and laboratory procedures.
