Phlebotomist – Altamonte Springs, FL Job Description The primary function of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The position requires the ability to collect and store specimens according to established procedures while maintaining a high standard of care and patient interaction. Responsibilities Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data. Conduct decontamination procedures and update patient information as necessary. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections clearly and courteously. Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understand all physicians’ orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order. Check all test requisitions or computer labels against script to ensure accuracy. Package specimens for transport, ensuring correct storage temperatures and procedures. Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results to inquiries. Essential Skills Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required. Minimum of 6 months’ work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or
GED. 0-2
years of experience in the field. Additional Skills & Qualifications Knowledge of phlebotomy, blood draw, and specimen collection. Experience with butterfly needles and laboratory procedures.
