Phlebotomist II – St Marys Job Description The primary role of the Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The position involves performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontaminating, and updating patient information. Responsibilities + Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. + Explain the process of venipuncture and specimen collection clearly and courteously. + Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles. + Understand all physicians’ orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. + Ensure test requisitions or computer labels match scripts with 100% accuracy. + Package specimens for transport and store samples at the required temperature. + Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, label accurately, and follow procedures for transport to maintain specimen integrity. + Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. + Attend annual department trainings. + Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Essential Skills + Phlebotomy + Blood draw + Venipuncture + Specimen collection + 3+ years of recent phlebotomy experience in a clinical setting or hospital Additional Skills & Qualifications + High School diploma or equivalent + Experience with pediatrics, geriatrics, and OB patients + Ability to perform 40+ draws per day + Phlebotomy certification (CPT) + Strong customer service skills Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 – $22.00/hr.
