Job Description
Phlebotomist II Job Description We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist responsible for blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. You will collect and store specimens according to established procedures, explain the venipuncture process to patients, demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles, and ensure all physician orders are fully understood. Responsibilities + Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. + Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously. + Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. + Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy. + Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples according to required temperature. + Ensure specimens are placed in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately labeled, and follow protocols for transport to maintain integrity. + Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. + Attend annual department trainings. + Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Essential Skills + High School Diploma or GED + Phlebotomy skills, including blood draw and venipuncture + 3+ years of recent phlebotomy experience + Customer service experience + Experience with specimen processing + Experience handling 30+ patient draws per day Work Environment Working hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. You will receive training for a few weeks and then will work as the sole phlebotomist, handling approximately 30 sticks per day. Permanent placement may be at a different location. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 – $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
