Phlebotomist Job Description We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist responsible for accurately obtaining blood samples via venipuncture and capillary collection procedures with minimal discomfort to the patient. You will provide care to patients of all ages, ensuring specimen integrity by adhering to the laboratory’s procedures for collection, handling, and processing. You will follow departmental policies and procedures, including quality control, quality assurance, and safety protocols. Responsibilities Perform accurate venipuncture and capillary blood collection using technical skills and abilities. Handle and process specimens accurately according to laboratory procedures. Identify patients correctly and label specimens properly. Select appropriate tubes, containers, transport media, and storage temperature for each test type. Determine proper priority for collection process and follow guidelines for missed draws, recollects, or difficult sticks. Ensure quality by utilizing job knowledge, judgment, and problem-solving skills. Use resources to collect and process requested tests and respond to inquiries for test information and basic customer-related issues. Follow all safety, infection control, OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen guidelines, CPL Compliance policies, and HIPAA guidelines. Participate in departmental quality assurance programs and laboratory training programs. Utilize departmental resources effectively and demonstrate efficiency in performing procedures and determining priority. Operate equipment to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime. Maintain confidentiality of customer-related information and support a positive work environment. Promote customer relations using personal and professional skills, and communicate with laboratory staff and customers to ensure quality patient care. Essential Skills Proficiency in venipuncture and capillary blood collection. 3 to 5 years of recent phlebotomy experience. Experience with high volume, performing 40+ draws per day. Efficient in blood draw using straight needles. Certified Phlebotomist. Additional Skills & Qualifications Outpatient experience required for processing. Good customer service skills and personality. Work Environment The work schedule is Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM, with 1 hour lunch. This role is initially contract-based, with potential for contract-to-hire based on performance. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 – $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
