Phlebotomist II Job Description The primary role of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and providing workflow recommendations. This position requires expertise in blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. Responsibilities Conduct blood draws and label specimens accurately. Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data. Decontaminate and update patient information. Collect and store specimens in accordance with established procedures. Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process clearly and courteously. Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles. Understand and execute all physician orders accurately. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy. Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature. Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Respond to telephone inquiries and read laboratory results. Essential Skills Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment. Minimum of 6 months’ experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or
GED. 2-4
years of phlebotomy experience. Experience with pediatric and geriatric patients. Data entry and customer service skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications Ability to perform 40-50 draws per day.
