Job Description

Phlebotomist (Plasmapheresis Tech) 2.7 2.7 out of 5 stars 6917 Fairfield Ave, Shreveport, LA 71106 Pelican Plasma is seeking a Phlebotomist to join our team at the plasma donation center in south Shreveport. The phlebotomist will be responsible for the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors by performing venipuncture, monitoring the automated plasmapheresis process and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory guidelines. They will also provide information to guide prospective donors through the donation process and provide post-venipuncture care. The plasma we collect from donors is used for development of lifesaving therapies and treatments. By creating a positive donor experience, the phlebotomist will help cultivate a pool of return donors and promote the production of essential plasma-derived medicines and therapies. The phlebotomist will work collaboratively with our healthcare team, integrating our mission and values into daily decisions, behaviors and actions.

Job Duties include:

Meets and exceeds customer expectations through appropriate interaction and responsiveness to donor needs Adheres to established quality practices while continually seeking to improve work performance Ensures the safety of donors and purity of product as a result of the plasma collection process Performs venipunctures and operates automated plasmapheresis machine Provides assistance and information to donor during and following collection process Monitors donor for adverse reactions and provides post-donation care Ensures timely and accurate documentation in donor record management system May perform medical screening and physical assessment to determine donor suitability May assist in recruitment, scheduling and education of plasma donors Maintains compliance with SOP’s, current Good Manufacturing Procedures (cGMP) and regulatory guidelines Promotes safety in all actions, ensuring EHS and OSHA compliance Maintains confidentiality of all personnel, donor and center information Participates in various meetings, such as in-service training, continuing education programs, staff meetings, and safety meetings Performs computer data entry and general administrative duties with attention to accuracy and quality assurance

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

High school diploma or equivalent Phlebotomy certification preferred Satisfactory completion of in-house training program and proficiency checks within first 90 days of employment Possess current CPR certification or satisfactorily complete CPR/First Aid Course within first 6 months of employment Must be dependable, punctual and have effective communication skills Must demonstrate a positive approach toward donors and other staff members, acting in a highly professional manner at all times Ability to demonstrate accurate phlebotomies with large gauge needle Demonstrated basic knowledge of computer equipment and software; ability to learn and utilize our donor management system, with training Demonstrated accuracy in complete and concurrent documentation

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS / ENVIRONMENT

Ability to pull and lift equipment and supplies up to 50 lbs., unassisted Ability to perform duties requiring standing or bending for long periods of time without relief Ability to bend, stoop or kneel Must be able to work flexible and/or extended shifts Requires work with needles, scissors, blood bags, human blood, and collection equipment Work involves potential exposure to infectious diseases from blood and blood products
