Description Performs phlebotomy, clerical and assistant functions in the Laboratory Department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs venipunctures and skin punctures per established protocols.
Documents all tests ordered in the LIS.
Answers the telephone promptly and courteously.
Files reports.
Obtains missing physician signatures.
Sorts out lab reports and delivers to appropriate locations.
Orders central and office supply items.
Stocks shelves and phlebotomy baskets as needed.
Logs and packages pathology specimens for transport.
Performs pathology charges.
Follows universal precautions and all other safety and health policies.
Recognizes and reports all patient and employee safety issues.
Maintains educational training/professional development and competency.
Maintains confidentiality.
Attends pertinent in-services to effectively perform job duties.
Completes all required in-services on RELIAS.
Maintains a professional and friendly demeanor with patients and hospital staff.
Maintains the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of our patients.
Performs such related duties not listed herein but deemed in the best interest of the hospital.
Requirements
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
High school education is required, or equivalent.
Experience and Phlebotomy Certification are preferred. If a course has not been completed, the applicant will participate in a phlebotomy class (online) by getting into the next available class after the hire date and completing the course within 6 months of hire while participating in on-the-job training. The hospital will finance the course with a one-year contract.
WORKER TRAITS
Finger dexterity required to manipulate small objects, such as test tubes and microscope slides during cleaning and sterilization duties.
Clerical perception is necessary to sort and file reports and records and to avoid errors in transposition when posting information from one record to another.
Verbal ability is necessary for reading comprehension in filing or when answering the telephone.
