Job Description

JOB RELATIONSHIPS

The POCT Technician is under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Point-of-Care Testing Coordinator and the Administrative Director of Lab Services in collaboration with the various departments. To meet position responsibilities, the POCT Technician will be required to work closely and in coordination with physicians, staff and administration of Laboratory and the assigned departments.

DEFINITION OF POSITION

The POCT Technician will function as phlebotomist, coordinator of laboratory specimens for Carteret Health Care and task oriented technician for the Assigned Department under the direction of the POCT Coordinator and RN’s. In addition the POCT Technician is responsible for the general delivery and transport of supplies, reports, minor equipment and POCT Testing and Supply Management, and any other items as assigned both to and from the laboratory or ED. The POCT Technician will perform functions related to specimen collection and processing, order entry, etc. Also, the POCT Technician will assist with task oriented office and clinical functions under the direction of the RN with the main priority being on Point of Care Testing.

  • Task does not involve on-going assessment, interpretation or decision-making that cannot be logically separated from the task itself.

The Courier/Phlebotomist will perform functions related to specimen processing, e.g. medical necessity review, order entry, etc. Also, the Courier/Phlebotomist will assist with office and clinical functions and with point of care testing in serviced facilities as appropriate and as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Professional High school graduate or equivalent Medical assistant or phlebotomy training. Two years experience, as a phlebotomist in a hospital setting preferred. Current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification Demonstrated ability with computers
