POSITION SUMMARY

The Non-technical Coordinator is responsible forcultivating an environment of teamwork and positive attitude amongstaff that is patient oriented and focuses on providing a highlevel of customer satisfaction, positive communication and accurateresults within an acceptable turnaround time. The Non-technicalcoordinator covers non-technical services as related to specificarea of work (outpatient phlebotomy, inpatient phlebotomy, labassistants, or customer service). Coordinator is responsible fordaily operation of processes and services and reports to designatedlaboratory management.

Essential Functions:

Promotes the mission,vision, and values of the organization. Exhibits and adheres toWilliamson Health’s Standards of Performance in all areas of jobduties and responsibilities. Participates in hospital initiativesand in departmental goals set by the Laboratory Director and staff.

Interacts professionally with laboratory management, laboratorypersonnel, physicians, hospital personnel, patients and customersto provide optimal patient care. Works well with other laboratoryemployees to maintain an environment of teamwork. Exercises alllaboratory safety precautions and adheres OSHA and TOSHA safetyregulations Positively identifies patients, labels specimens andenters results using two unique identifiers. Maintains workingknowledge of laboratory policies and procedures. Maintains currentknowledge and adheres to hospital policies and state, federal andother regulatory requirements Responds appropriately to tests witha priority of STAT, call results or timed specimens Responsible fortraining new employees and students as assigned. Works with othercoordinators to maintain proper staffing and effective operations.

Interacts with nurses, staff, and physicians to provide optimalpatient care. Orients new employees prior to working independentlyand turns in training documentation in a timely manner. Conducts 6th month and annual competency and assists in the development ofthe competency material. Ensures procedures and policies arefollowed through monthly audits or error detection. Providefeedback to staff and implements process improvement. Promotespositive teamwork in area and serves as a mentor and coach. Assistsdirect manager in the overall operations of the department.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Formaleducation / training:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred.
Workplace experience:
  • Excellent customer service skills required.
  • Employee supervisionexperience preferred.
  • Familiar with medical terminology.
  • Minimum of four years phlebotomy experience in hospital setting.

Equipment and skills training:

  • Working knowledge of word andexcel.
  • On the job training of laboratory computer and phonesystem.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of medicallaboratory science
  • Strong organizational skills and interpersonalskills
  • Ability to determine appropriate course of action in morecomplex situations
  • Ability to work independently, be attentive todetail and maintain a positive attitude
