Job Summary :

Collects blood specimens for the clinical laboratories. Functions as an intermediary between the patient, patient caregivers, and the laboratories. Assures proper specimen collection and identification in compliance with section policies and procedures. Performs appropriate patient procedures in accordance with age-specific guidelines for the age groups served.

Asheboro How You’ll Impact Patient Care :

Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Prepares equipment to collect blood products efficiently. Performs venipuncture, arterial, and capillary punctures on patients as ordered by providers. Identifies and labels specimens and tests. Conducts laboratory tests on specimens. Enters data on forms/into computer. Assists donor before, during, and after donation. Instructs patient on urine collection procedures. Cleans/sterilizes equipment, instruments, and work area following safety, cleanliness, and infection control procedures. Practices sterile technique and prevents cross contamination. Handles blood and body fluids and deals with infectious patients. Maintains patient records and charts, ensuring that lab reports, x-rays, and other pertinent information is in the patient chart. Prepares test specimens for transport to outside laboratories, by mail or courier, and ensuring that specimens are properly labeled, handled, and transported to the correct laboratory to expedite patient results. Inventories supplies and places orders, receives and stores supplies in appropriate areas. Assists in Lipid and Coumadin Clinic counseling. Education/Experience/Certifications to

Qualify :

High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Participation in a certified phlebotomist program with current certification or two years’ experience in a related field. One year phlebotomy experience preferred. Current CPR certification.
