Phlebotomist I Job Description As a Phlebotomist I, your primary role is to assist with various duties such as troubleshooting, training, and recommending workflow improvements. You will be responsible for performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontaminating equipment, and updating patient information. Responsibilities Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately. Centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to test orders. Collect and store specimens following established procedures. Explain the process of venipuncture and specimen collection clearly and courteously. Demonstrate technique using straight needles and butterfly needles. Ensure laboratory requisition forms match specimen tubes. Package specimens properly for transport and store them at required temperatures. Adhere to OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual departmental trainings. Respond to telephone inquiries and read laboratory results. Essential Skills Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment. Minimum of 6 months’ experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or
GED. 0-2
years of relevant experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications Knowledge of specimen processing and patient care. Familiarity with medical procedures and healthcare settings. Work Environment This position is located in a doctor’s office, requiring an average of 30 blood draws daily. The work environment consists of different units on a single level. The role involves standing for 4-6 hours and primarily serving middle-aged women. You will work independently, with 2 weeks of initial training typically provided during daytime hours.
