Phlebotomist IJob Description The main function of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position involves handling blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. Responsibilities + Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. + Explain the venipuncture blood drawing or other specimen collection processes clearly and courteously. + Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. + Fully understand all physicians’ orders. + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. + Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy. + Package specimens for transport. + Store specimen samples according to required temperatures, placing samples in appropriate collection containers or tubes, and accurately label them. + Follow procedures specific to protocols necessary for transport to maintain specimen integrity. + Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. + Attend annual department trainings. + Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Essential Skills + Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states. + Minimum of 6 months’ experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. + High School Diploma or

GED. + 0-2

years of experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications + 1 year of experience with blood draws in high volume settings. + Experience working with patients ranging from babies to geriatrics. + Reliability. Work Environment This role requires working in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. The position involves interacting with patients of all ages, from babies to geriatrics. The work environment demands reliability and adherence to safety protocols. Phlebotomists should be prepared to manage a high volume of blood draws efficiently. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $16.50 – $18.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
