Phlebotomist IJob Description The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist with various tasks, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and suggest improvements for workflow efficiency. You will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and accurate collection and handling of specimens. Responsibilities + Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately. + Centrifuge and decontaminate specimens while maintaining detailed records. + Update patient information as needed. + Collect and store specimens following established procedures. + Clearly explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures to patients. + Demonstrate proper techniques using straight or butterfly needles. + Understand and follow physicians’ orders precisely. + Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes accurately. + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to test requirements. + Verify test requisitions against scripts to ensure accuracy. + Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature. + Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. + Attend annual department training sessions. + Answer telephone inquiries and provide laboratory results as needed. Essential Skills + Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required. + At least 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. + High School Diploma or

GED. + 0-2

years of related experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications + 1 year of experience with high-volume blood draws. + Experience working with a range of patients from babies to geriatrics. + Reliability and strong work ethic. Work Environment The work environment is dynamic and fast-paced, typically within a laboratory or hospital setting. Employees must be adaptable to varying tasks and patient needs, while maintaining a professional demeanor. Adherence to safety protocols and regulations is paramount. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $16.50 – $18.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
