Phlebotomist Job Description The Phlebotomist will be responsible for identifying the best method for retrieving specimens and preparing them for laboratory testing, while maintaining high standards of safety protocol. Responsibilities Verify clinical lab test orders and bring discrepancies to the attention of appropriate clinical staff. Verify patient information using two patient identifiers. Decipher the best method for obtaining blood samples depending on the specific patient. Obtain blood specimens by performing venipunctures and fingersticks. Dispose of contaminated sharps in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies. Track collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintain daily tallies of collections performed. Maintain quality results by following department procedures and complying with legal regulations. Practice infection control standards at all times when working with patients and equipment. Essential Skills Phlebotomy Blood draw Butterfly technique Additional Skills & Qualifications 1-2 years of phlebotomy experience Work Environment This position is located in Poughkeepsie, with working hours from Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
