GENERAL OVERVIEW

Coordinates and oversees daily activities of the Phlebotomy staff. Cooperates with and maintains excellent working relationships with patients, AHN leadership and staff, physician offices and designated external agencies or vendors. Performs any written or verbal communication necessary to exchange information with designated contacts and promote working relationships. Ensures safety of patients, visitors and other employees by following policies and working in accordance with requirements of all regulatory bodies.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs steps necessary to collect and process specimens (blood/non-blood) in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures as required: Performs venipunctures, fingersticks, heelsticks in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting. Utilizes the Information System to register patients, place orders and to update the status of the orders. Labels specimens, according to established policies and procedures, completes necessary requisitions, packages specimens, and ensures transportation of the specimen specimens and paperwork to the appropriate locations as required. Maintains the cleanliness of the work area and ensures adequate supplies are available for efficient laboratory operations.

Perform administrative duties such as:

Onboard new employees and ensure the completion of orientation requirements, mandatory in-services, continuing education requirements and competencies. Oversees phlebotomy training of new hires, students and other health care providers. Perform Environment of Care Rounds and site visits for outpatient phlebotomy locations. Prepares and maintains phlebotomy staff work schedules to assure appropriate staffing and communicates the changes. May travel to remote locations, (personal care homes, nursing homes, etc.) to obtain blood specimens as needed. May perform patient registration as required. Act as an on-call resource for off-shift phlebotomists and cover off-shifts as needed, if applicable. Performs all other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum High School diploma or equivalent Phlebotomy training 3 years in phlebotomy Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate. Preferred Post High School coursework in a Phlebotomy, Medical Assistant, or Medical Lab Assistant program Phlebotomy certification from a nationally accredited program
