JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Scheduled Weekly Hours:

40 Day Shift 8-4:30 pm with rotating late shift 9-5:30 pm at ASC. Required to work 1 Saturday every 8 weeks and 1-2 Holidays per year. Summary of the

Job:

Plans and administers medically prescribed physical therapy treatment for patients suffering from injuries, or muscle, nerve, joint and bone diseases, to restore function, relieve pain, and prevent disability: Reviews physician’s referral (prescription) and patient’s condition and medical records to determine physical therapy treatment required. Tests and measures patient’s strength, motor development, sensory perception, functional capacity, and respiratory and circulatory efficiency, and records findings to develop or revise treatment programs. Plans and prepares written treatment program based on evaluation of patient data. Administers manual exercises to improve and maintain function. Instructs, motivates, and assists patient to perform various physical activities, such as non-manual exercises, ambulatory functional activities, daily-living activities, and in use of assistant and supportive devices, such as crutches, canes, and prostheses. Administers treatments involving application of physical agents, using equipment, such as, moist packs, electrical stimulation and ultrasound machines. Evaluates effects of treatment at various stages and adjusts treatments to achieve maximum benefit. Administers massage, applying knowledge of massage techniques and body physiology. Administers traction to relieve pain, using traction equipment. Records treatment, response, and progress in patient’s chart or enters information into computer. Instructs patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home. Orients, instructs, and directs work activities of assistants, mobility techs, and students.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science or Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from an APTA accredited institution. Active or temporary Physical Therapist license from the Louisiana State Board of Physical Therapy required. Temporary license holders must obtain active license within 90 days of hire. Current BLS certifications through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off. Working knowledge of computer software to include, but not be limited to: word processing and spreadsheets.

Physical Demands:

Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 50 pounds is required.
