Job Description
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
To evaluate students, to participate in team meetings and the development of individual educational plans.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited college or university.
2. Successful completion of the Registration Board exam and possession of current, valid license.
3. Experience in pediatrics; experience in public school setting preferred.
4. Current MA license.
5. Excellent References
6. MA DESE Certified Acceptable C.O.R.I. and fingerprint report as determined by the Superintendent
SALARY AND BENEFITS
1. Salary will be paid according to the approved Teachers’ Salary Scale.
2. Provisions for leave and illness will be earned in accordance with the existing teachers’ contract.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Goal:
To provide each student identified as needing physical therapy services with the individually tailored help he or she needs to make progress toward established educational goals; to complete physical therapy evaluations; to interpret test results to parents and service providers; to write appropriate educational goals and objectives for special education plans when called upon; to complete assigned reports on student progress on time; and to serve as the primary special education liaison to assigned students.
Supervision:
Reports to the Director of Pupil Services.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Provides direct physical therapy services in accordance with individualized educational plans or established 504 Plans.
- Conducts physical therapy evaluations and/or observations and writes comprehensive reports on referred students.
- Interprets physical therapy test results and makes recommendations on how best to meet the educational needs of a student to school personnel, other concerned professionals, parents and, as appropriate, the students.
- Participates in case conferences, special education team meetings, and faculty meetings on a before or after school basis when assigned.
- Provides consultation services to the school administration, faculty, staff, and parents on matters pertaining to physical therapy.
- Identifies student needs and works with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Communicates with parents and school personnel on the progress of students receiving physical therapy services.
- Directs and supervises special education paraprofessionals in special education and general education settings with regard to student’s physical need.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Participates on faculty committees as assigned.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and/or through self-selected professional growth activities.
- Compiles case history data on students for whom additional family history, health history, early developmental history, and environmental history are deemed appropriate per state and federal regulations.
- Complies with district, state and federal policies and regulations, including meeting deadlines for written documents.
- Acts as a Mandated Reporter (Chapter 119, Section 51A).
- Complies with the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Policy.
- Supervises personnel as assigned by the Director or the Superintendent.
- Other duties may be assigned by the Superintendent.
