I. GENERAL SUMMARY

: This position plans and implements specifictreatment programs for individual patients according to theprinciples and practices of physical therapy. Collaborates withinterdisciplinary treatment team.

II. PRINCIPAL DUTIES ANDESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

: Maintains established departmental policiesand procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety,environmental and infection control standards. Plans physicaltherapy program for each patient including exercise, massage, heat,water, light and electricity. Applies diagnostic and prognosticmuscle, nerve, and joint and functional ability tests. Directs andaids patient in active and passive exercises, muscle re-education,and functional training using pulleys, weights, steps and inclinedsurfaces. Gives whirlpool and contrast baths as required; appliesmoist packs to reduce inflammation. Provides instructions intherapeutic procedures to be continued by the patient. Adaptsconventional physical therapy techniques to meet the needs ofpatients unable to comprehend verbal commands or voluntarily carryout a regime of therapeutic exercises. Conducts or participates intraining medical and nursing personnel in physical therapytechniques and objectives. Evaluates, records and reports onpatient’s progress for review by other members of therehabilitative team. Participates in educational programs andin-service meetings. Attends meetings as required. Maintainscollaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues inorder to effectively contribute to the working groups achievementof goals, and to help foster a positive work environment Performsother similar and related duties as required or directed.

III. JOBREQUIREMENTS

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Must demonstrate theknowledge and skills necessary to assess the needs of patients ofall different age populations in order to provide careappropriately.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree needed.

EXPERIENCE

1to 2 years An equivalent combination of education and experience,which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listedabove, may be substituted for the above education and experiencerequirements.

D. LICENSES, ETC.

Must be Board Certified and haveappropriate license

IV. AGE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

: Possesses andapplies the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care topatients throughout the life span, with consideration of agingprocesses, human development stages and cultural patterns in eachstep of the care process.

: Prolonged, extensive, or considerablestanding/walking Lifts, positions, pushes and or transfers patientsLifts supplies and equipment
