POSITION SUMMARY
Provides treatments to patients byevaluating the function and selecting and applying appropriatetreatments to improve or restore function. Participates in aninterdisciplinary approach for in servicing and community educationand in the clinical education of affiliating students. Potentiallymay be responsible for cross-site coverage.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
Graduate of an accredited program ofPhysical Therapy with a minimum of a B.S. Must hold or a currentConnecticut license in Physical Therapy.
COMPETENCIES
Thisposition requires an individual with strong English communicationskills, both verbal and written. Must have personal computer skillsand be proficient in the use of Windows based programs needed fordepartment functions. Basic keyboarding and skill is desirable, butnot required, in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and insearch capabilities on the internet. Must have access to reliabletransportation to travel between multiple work sites; and travel isrequired in order to perform essential duties.

Job-Specific Competency 1. Evaluates patients based ondepartmental standard. 2. Conducts and modifies evaluations basedon the patient’s symptoms, level of activity, and medical statusestablishing individualized, appropriate, measurable goals for eachpatient. 3. Treats patients with the appropriate and acceptabletherapeutic exercises (strength, endurance, coordination, and ROM).4. Administers physical agents (modalities) and manual therapeutictechnique to relieve pain and/or attain established goals. 5.Utilizes effective techniques to assist in normalizing motoractivity and learning. 6. Educates patients/families in homeexercise programs and/or functional activities in order to maximizeindependent functional activity. 7. Determines when a patient hasachieved maximal benefit from treatment and recommends discharge ifappropriate. 8. Documents in accordance to insurance guidelines andadheres to the department’s policies and procedures. 9. Seeks andfosters interdepartmental communication and communication with thereferring physician regarding patient care as evidenced byobservation, and chart review. 10. Accurately and consistentlyfills out and submits charges daily. 11. Adheres to theprofessional code of ethics established by the APTA and thefacility at all times as evidenced by observation. 12. Performs allduties with proper body mechanics and safety to prevent injuries.13. Supervises at least one affiliated student per year 14. Attendsa continuing education course to further/improve treatmenttechniques. 15. Participates in at least one departmentalin-service, or community in-service as evidenced by documentationof educational program. HPECHN
