Job Description
Summary:
Assists the physical therapist in various types of treatmentincluding therapeutic exercise mobility and modalities. Provides care ina manner appropriate to the age of the patient.
Responsibilities:
KEYRESPONSIBILITIES
Instructs/educates patients/families/caregivers in theuse and purpose of exercise programs therapeutic devices and adaptivetechniques that follows a documented treatment plan under thesupervision of a licensed physical therapist. Implements physicaltherapy care programs or portions thereof as planned and directed by alicensed physical therapist. Maintains timely and accurate documentationincluding the medical record physician communication charges etc.
Consults with other members of the rehabilitation team as needed tocoordinate patient care. Adapts/adjusts patient equipment and devices;safely and appropriately applies orthoses. Regularly and appropriatelydelegates portions of treatment programs to supportive personnel.
Consistently demonstrates an awareness and concern for patient safety;complies with hospital infection control policies. Demonstrates theability to communicate with patients/families/caregivers in aprofessional manner while motivating them to advance in rehabilitation.
Actively participates on patient care and department committees.
Regularly notifies licensed physical therapist of the patient’sperformance/progress and recommends appropriatemodifications/termination of treatments in a timely manner. Adapts ormodifies treatment program to meet patients’ needs under thesupervision of a licensed physical therapist. Regularly reviews caseloadfor opportunities to effectively “dove-tail” procedures performingphysical therapy on more than one patient simultaneously withoutinterfering with quality. Regularly and appropriately instructs/educatesother health team personnel in the care of the patient including but notlimited to treatment programs/home exercises. Assists in selectedportions of the orientation and/or training of new employees/students.
Reacts to change productively and performs other job related tasks andduties as assigned. Possesses adequate knowledge of applicable Federaland State Regulations related to the treatment setting. Completes workassignments within an acceptable time frame. Uses time and resources tothe best possible advantage for successful completion of jobresponsibilities. Develops and maintains efficient workingrelationships. Is reliable in respect to attendance. Is Reliable inrespect to punctuality. Recognizes the importance of team efforts andpartners with others to achieve positive outcomes Other information:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Is responsible for ongoing development ofhis/her work skills through the use of available resources (i.e.:inservices formal educational programs other work groups and on-the-jobtraining). Attends and participates in staff meetings and inservicesand/or reviews documentation as required. Assists in the orientation ofothers and actively participates in mentoring. Performs analytical anddecision-making functions with minimal supervision. Recognizes and seeksassistance/consultation when appropriate. Demonstrates an understandingof relative Hospital and all-departmental policies and proceduresincluding safety issues. Possesses awareness of programs/servicesprovided by Hospital and where they are located. Is cooperative ininteractions treating customers with courtesy respect and compassion. Ispatient when responding to questions and answers questionsappropriately. Responds to requests in a timely manner. Handlesinterruptions in a skillful way. Maintains a professional appearance anddemeanor. Strives to prevent/resolve customer concerns to thecustomer’s satisfaction.
