May provide training and guidance to studentsand interns. Job Description We are seeking a Physical TherapyAssistant (PTA) to join our acute care team at our NortheastHospital! This is a supplemental position and we are looking for2-3 weekend day shifts (Saturdays and/or Sundays) and 6+ weekdayshifts in a 6 week scheduling period. The hours are flexiblebetween 7am – 6pm (8 hour shift).
Minimum QualificationsEducation:
Graduate of an accredited physical therapist assistant or aphysical therapist program
Licenses/Certifications:
Current or temporary license to practice as a Physical TherapyAssistant by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or bythe Physical Therapy Compact Commission. Current certification of Basic Life Support.
Experience /Knowledge /
Skills:
The position requires occasional/frequent lifting up to 75/100pounds and carrying of up to 30 pounds; prolonged standing;frequent walking, stooping and squatting. Fine hand dexterity,eye-hand coordination, the ability to receive oral and writtencommunication, and to communicate verbally and in writing are alsonecessary. The visual ability to monitor instruments, computers andequipment, recognize alphanumeric characters, distinguish colorsand observe physical characteristics are essential to thisposition.
Principal Accountabilities Assumes responsibility in the care of the patient. Implements aphysical therapy treatment program as described by a physicaltherapist’s written plan of care. Provides physical therapyservices under the supervision of the PT, and treatments aremodified only as allowed by the plan of care. Is able todemonstrate physical therapy skills competently. Supervisesrehabilitation technicians and others with regard to patient care.
May screen patients for possible PT services under the direction ofa PT. Monitors patient’s condition and progress towards treatmentgoals. Motivates and instructs patient/caregiver using appropriatemethods. Communicates effectively with the supervising physicaltherapist, patient/caregiver and other professional colleagues toinclude physicians and insurance companies. Manages time effectively. Documents appropriately in the medical record and completesother documentation duties accurately and efficiently. May serve as a clinical resource to colleagues, other healthcare professionals, or to the community in general. May serve as Clinical Instructor for PTA interns. Presents relevant special topics in professional literature atclinic meetings, grand rounds, conferences, university settings andmeetings as delegated or requested by the faculty Ensures safe care of patients by adhering to policies,procedures and standards, within budgetary specifications,including time management, supply management, productivity,flexibility based on patient census and accuracy of practice.
Provides treatment in all areas of the department, which mayinclude inpatients, outpatients, weekends and holidays. Promotes individual professional growth and development bymeeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skillscompetency. Supports department-based goals which contribute to the successof the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource toless experienced staff. Assists in clinic education efforts, whether to patients,staff, hospital, system or to the community. Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of ourcommunity by creating compassionate and personalized experiences.
